Sun Conure
In the nursery, hand-feeding now!
Sun Conures are vibrant and energetic parrots native to northeastern South America, including countries like Brazil, Suriname, and Guyana. They are renowned for their striking coloration, featuring bright orange and yellow plumage on their head and body, contrasted with green wings and tail feathers. These sociable birds are popular as pets due to their playful personalities and ability to mimic a few sounds, although they require a lot of mental stimulation and social interaction to stay happy. Sun conures are highly active and thrive in environments that provide plenty of space to fly and explore. Their loud, cheerful calls make them lively companions, but potential owners should be prepared for their noisy nature and the significant care needs that come with these intelligent, colorful birds.
As with all pet parrots, they require ample space to allow for exercise, play and physical activity in addition to social interaction to thrive. A diet relying mainly on seed mixes is too high in fat in addition to being deficient in vitamins A and D and calcium which will lead to health problems. Appropriate diets for pet parrots may include pellets, sprouts, a variety of fresh produce, and a small amount of seed.
