Solomon Island Eclectus Parrot - female

Currently not available

The Solomon Island Eclectus (Eclectus roratus solomonensis) is a vibrant and striking parrot subspecies native to the Solomon Islands of Melanesia in the south Pacific. Known for their vivid plumage, male Eclectus display bright emerald-green feathers, while females tend to have striking red and purple hues. These parrots are highly social and often form large flocks in their natural rainforest habitats. They primarily feed on a diet of fruits, seeds, blossoms, and nuts, playing an essential role in seed dispersal within their ecosystem. Due to their stunning appearance and talent at mimicking sounds and speech, Solomon Island Eclectus Parrots are popular among bird enthusiasts. As with many island species, habitat loss in the wild is a significant threat to their survival. Conservation efforts to protect their wild habitat are important to ensure the continued survival of this magnificent subspecies. Fortunately, this subspecies is well-established in aviculture for us to enjoy.
As with all pet parrots, they require ample space to allow for exercise, play and physical activity in addition to social interaction to thrive. A diet relying mainly on seed mixes is too high in fat in addition to being deficient in vitamins A and D and calcium which will lead to health problems. Appropriate diets for pet parrots may include pellets, sprouts, a variety of fresh produce, and a small amount of seed.
