Rose-breasted Cockatoo

Currently not available

The Rose-breasted Cockatoo, also known as the Galah, is native to most of Australia. Recognizable by its striking pink, gray, and white plumage, it features a bright pink breast and face contrasted with silvery-gray back and wings. These intelligent birds are highly adaptable, often inhabiting open woodlands, grasslands, and urban areas. They are known for their playful behavior, high pitched calls, and strong social bonds. They can be seen in large flocks and that have increased in size to become a nuisance in parts of their range. Rose-breasted cockatoos are primarily seed eaters but also consume fruits, nuts, and occasionally insects. Due to their striking appearance, engaging personalities, and softer calls compared to other cockatoos, they are popular as pets, although they require ample social interaction and mental stimulation and will benefit from a large outdoor aviary to spend part of their time for flight exercise.
A diet relying mainly on seed mixes is too high in fat in addition to being deficient in vitamins A and D and calcium which will lead to health problems. Rose-breasted Cockatoos are particularly prone to obesity. Appropriate diets for pet parrots may include pellets, sprouts, a variety of fresh produce, and a small amount of seed.
