Red-throated Conure
Currently not available
The Red-throated Conure is native to Central America in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. It is very similar to its close relative, the Mexican Green Conure, but this species features a distinctive red bib, which gives it its name. These conures are social and active birds, often seen in pairs or small groups, and they are known for their playful and inquisitive nature. They primarily feed on fruits, seeds, and nuts, thriving in forests and woodland edges. This is one of the louder conures as pets, so caution should be taken to ensure you and your neighbors will not be bothered by it. Their personality more than makes up for their boisterous vocal abilities.
As with all pet parrots, they require ample space to allow for exercise, play and physical activity in addition to social interaction to thrive. A diet relying mainly on seed mixes is too high in fat in addition to being deficient in vitamins A and D and calcium which will lead to health problems. Appropriate diets for pet parrots may include pellets, sprouts, a variety of fresh produce, and a small amount of seed.
