Red Jenday Conure
In the nursery, hand-feeding now!
Jenday Conures are vibrant, medium/small-sized parrots known for their striking green plumage accented with bright orange and yellow on their heads and shoulders and red bellies. Red Jendays have a mutation that shifts the yellow color of the head to orange or red depending on if they have inherited one or two copies of the gene from their parents. Unlike Red Factor Suns, the red mutation in Jendays is not a lethal factor, so two Red Jendays can be paired together without issue. Native to South America, particularly Brazil and Paraguay, these intelligent birds are popular as pets due to their playful nature and strong social bonds. They are highly adaptable, energetic, and enjoy interactive toys and mental stimulation. One of the loudest conures, Jenday conures can be quite vocal and expressive, often mimicking sounds and speech, making them engaging companions.
As with all pet parrots, they require ample space to allow for exercise, play and physical activity in addition to social interaction to thrive. A diet relying mainly on seed mixes is too high in fat in addition to being deficient in vitamins A and D and calcium which will lead to health problems. Appropriate diets for pet parrots may include pellets, sprouts, a variety of fresh produce, and a small amount of seed.
