Lutino Dusky-headed Conure

In the nursery, hand-feeding now!

Dusky-headed Conures are wonderful, small-sized parrots native to South America, particularly found in countries like Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay. The Lutino-colored Dusky-headed Conure is only found in captivity. Similar to albino in many animals, Lutino parrots lack the ability to produce the pigment, melanin, resulting in a bright yellow bird that would otherwise be green. The coloring does not affect their health, and Lutino Duskies can expect to live a normal life just like their green siblings. Dusky-headed conures are popular in the pet trade due to their calm but playful and affectionate nature. Duskies can be vocal at times, but they are less boisterous than their cousins, the Sun and Jenday Conures. They are a lively addition to any bird enthusiast's collection.
As with all pet parrots, they require ample space to allow for exercise, play and physical activity in addition to social interaction to thrive. A diet relying mainly on seed mixes is too high in fat in addition to being deficient in vitamins A and D and calcium which will lead to health problems. Appropriate diets for pet parrots may include pellets, sprouts, a variety of fresh produce, and a small amount of seed.
