Lilac-crowned Amazon

Currently not available

The Lilac-crowned Amazon is a vibrant and intelligent parrot species native to the Pacific side of Mexico. It features a bright green body, a distinctive lilac-colored crown on its head and a maroon patch on its forehead. These parrots are highly social and are often seen flying in pairs or small flocks. They inhabit dry forests, subtropical regions, and plantations, where they feed primarily on seeds, fruits, and nuts. Known for their loud calls and playful behavior, Lilac-crowned Amazons are popular among bird enthusiasts but face threats in the wild from habitat loss and poaching. They are one of several parrot species that have been inadvertently introduced to parts of the US, including Southern California, Texas and Florida. Our breeding Lilac-crowns originated as orphaned nestlings or injured adults in Southern California that could not be returned to the wild but are able to enjoy a pampered life and companionship in our aviaries.
As with all pet parrots, they require ample space to allow for exercise, play and physical activity in addition to social interaction to thrive. A diet relying mainly on seed mixes is too high in fat in addition to being deficient in vitamins A and D and calcium which will lead to health problems. Appropriate diets for pet parrots may include pellets, sprouts, a variety of fresh produce, and a small amount of seed.
