Currently not available
Blue and Gold Macaws are large, striking parrots with a wide range in South America, particularly in the Amazon basin. Recognized for their brilliant blue backs and yellow-gold underparts, these macaws are among the most popular and recognizable of the large parrots. They are naturally social and intelligent birds that thrive in groups and are known for their playful nature and loud, raucous calls. Blue and Gold Macaws are also highly skilled at mimicking sounds and speech, making them popular as pets. As a large parrot, their enclosure should be large enough to allow for plenty of activity and stimulation. For many large parrots, it’s often beneficial to have an outdoor aviary large enough for flight and exercise where they can spend at least part of their time.
As with all pet parrots, they require ample space to allow for exercise, play and physical activity in addition to social interaction to thrive. A diet relying mainly on seed mixes is too high in fat in addition to being deficient in vitamins A and D and calcium which will lead to health problems. Appropriate diets for pet parrots may include pellets, sprouts, a variety of fresh produce, and a small amount of seed. The addition of nuts, such as almonds, walnuts and filberts is great for macaws too.
