Bare-eyed Cockatoo
Currently not available
The Bare-eyed Cockatoo, also known as the Little Corella in Australia, is a charming species native to Australia and New Guinea. Recognizable by its primarily white plumage and distinctive facial features, it has a bare, blue skin around its eyes, which gives it its name. These intelligent and social birds typically inhabit forests, woodlands, and mangroves, where they feed on seeds, nuts, berries, and insects. In parts of Australia, their population has increased to the point of becoming a nuisance. They are known for their loud, quavering calls and playful behavior, making them popular in aviculture. We have 5 generations of Bare-eyed Cockatoos at our farm. These energetic and intelligent cockatoos need ample space and mental stimulation to thrive and will benefit if provided with a large outdoor aviary to spend part of their time in.
As with all pet parrots, they require ample space to allow for exercise, play and physical activity in addition to social interaction to thrive. A diet relying mainly on seed mixes is too high in fat in addition to being deficient in vitamins A and D and calcium which will lead to health problems. Appropriate diets for pet parrots may include pellets, sprouts, a variety of fresh produce, and a small amount of seed.
